Gym motivation – if it was easy, everyone would do it

Gym motivation - If it was easy

Gym Motivation in just 40 seconds:

Dedication, passion, and years of hard work. That’s what’s required to break away from the chains of average, when it comes to fitness. Now, we’re not saying that everyone must be involved with fitness and/or bodybuilding to be above average. In fact, we’d be nuts to say that. However, the dedication required and the level of control required by your mind is second to none.

To harness the power of your mind and tell it to push your body beyond the point where everyone else would quit, is an incredible feat. To do this on a daily basis, to push yourself harder than you did the workout before, is even more amazing.

We all start somewhere

Rome wasn’t built in a day…and neither were amazing physiques. Everyone who makes the choice to better their physical appearance and health by working out, all started at the bottom step. My bottom step, was when I was 14 years old. I was tired of being “a loser”, tired of being picked on, tired of being that person that no one noticed. I was tired of being that person that no one would even miss if I didn’t show up to school. My confidence was next to zero and the number of people I called friends were about the same. I was embarrassed to talk to girls, simply because I felt as if I had nothing to offer them, or that some other guy who was bigger, stronger, and faster than me would walk by and our conversation would be finished. Or worse, he’d say something embarrassing to me in front of the girl I was talking to.

The summer of my sophomore year of high school I cleaned out my parents’ garage and uncovered the weight set that had been collecting rust for years. I asked my dad to show me everything he knew…and he did. I took the extra dumbbells to my room and put them under my bed so that every night before bed I could do curls with my ab crunches. I wanted a six pack so bad that I told myself I would do as many sit ups and crunches as I could every night before bed until I had one. 3

I was sore all the time from working out but I loved every ounce of the pain. I knew I was growing. I ate everything in sight that remotely resembled protein and guzzled water until I had to get out of bed twice a night to pee – literally from all the water I had drank during the day.

By the time summer was over, my body had completely transformed. I was stronger, my clothes fit better, and I was finally confident. I wore what I felt like wearing, rather than worrying about what other people thought.  I spoke up in class, I made friends, and I began to discover who I was supposed to be. It all boiled down to confidence and perseverance.

I’m 37 years old now and not once have I ever looked back and regretted my decision to make fitness and the gym a part of my every day lifestyle.
