Gabe and the team have preached that when your mind gives out, your muscles still have more. We see here Pete reaching what he thought was the limit, but with Gabe in his ear, he squeaks out a few more. Mind you, this is over an hour into the grueling shoulder workout and they had pushed him harder than he’s ever worked before.
Success comes when you have an idea, a goal, and that goal has an emotional attachment to it. Pete’s was that he was tired of being overweight and tired of the treatment he received because of it. His reason for being in the gym was so strong, that nothing could stop him.
This mentality is what you need to succeed in the gym.
Find your WHY.
What is that emotional, driving force? For some it’s:
- Setting an example for their children
- Fear of an early death due to being overweight
- A breakup
- A chance to be the best husband or wife possible
- To gain enough self confidence to stand up for yourself
The list goes on and there is no right or wrong answer. These are just a few examples of what we’ve seen over the years. Find your WHY, write it down, and allow it to be etched in the front of your mind. Think about this WHY when you’re about to give up in the gym, when you’re on the last few reps, and ask yourself what you’re willing to sacrifice to meet your goals.
