A personal fitness baseline and goal setting session can range somewhere in the $200-$300 range but I am going to share with you how to obtain the successful mindset that it takes to meet your goals. Action is the first step in making changes. The weekly journal below will keep you inspired and constant like never before. I have worked with hundreds of successful fat loss clients. The ones that journal consistently are at least 80% more successful in goal meeting that those that do not. Print this page or simple answer these questions in your journal each week. Check items off of the list to track your weekly success. For an even greater success rate, print this journal page multiple times, and put it into a three ring binder so that you will have them ready for each upcoming week. Journaling works primarily because it creates a high sense of AWARENESS. Try to include only positive self-talk in the pages of your journal. If you are seeing yourself in a negative way it is time to allow yourself the gift of positive self-talk! If you change the way you look at things, then the way you look at things will change (along with our physique). The number one set back that I see, for a client (and for myself) is negativity. Maybe your fat loss goal hasn’t been a success in the past but THIS time it will work. Having lost 85 pounds on the Body Spartan Program, I can assure you that all the tools you need are here.

Journaling for fat loss success:

  • Journal foods, portion sizes, and meal times, as soon as possible after you eat to increase accountability and to avoid forgetting something that you have eaten. It will also make you more aware of what you are really consuming.
  • Be detailed as you write down details.  Be sure to account for condiments or specific ingredients in salads, sandwiches, etc.
  • If it is impossible to be exact, try your best to estimate serving sizes. One of my precious fitness modeling clients once gifted me with a marvelous food scale. I am not afraid to use this daily when portioning out chicken and meats. It keeps me smiling and motivated remembering her outstanding success on the program as well. Measuring cups and spoons will help you familiarize yourself with what food amounts look like.  You may be surprised to see that you have been eating a larger serving than you realized!  Soon you will be able to eyeball your servings of food and won’t need to measure.
  • Be sure to write down any digestion issues, energy level inconsistencies, skin issues, or anything else (physical or emotionally) that you experience.  This is a personal record of the way your body responds to what you eat.  Over time you will see patterns in your body’s signals and allow you to increase success by altering antagonists that contribute to your hurtles.
  • If you can find the time, consider reflecting on your notes at the end of the day.  Review your food intake and write a journal entry for your mood and emotions.  This can be an important piece to understanding why you made certain dietary choices.  Overall health includes emotional, spiritual and mental health. Reflection will promote internal honesty allowing you to progress beyond hurtles that have stopped you in the past.
