Imagine having everything you’ve worked for your entire life taken from you, and then rebuilding from the ground up.
Body Spartan Founder, Gabe Tuft, went from being a fitness icon at 280-lbs and 7% body fat, to a timid 228-lbs with almost no muscle. Diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm over two years ago, he was told last year by his surgeon that he couldn’t lift more than 10-lbs and had to limit his cardio to “brisk walks.” Otherwise, the aneurysm might rupture and he would bleed out and die within minutes.
The condition is genetic and the cause is unknown. Actor, John Ritter, best known for his role on the TV sitcom “Three’s Company” died abruptly from this same condition. Gabe’s mother was also diagnosed with the condition and underwent surgery last year, with the same surgical team that Gabe had.
This is a story about not giving up, about being humble and knowing where your beginnings come from. Gabe openly admits that it’s difficult to have gone from being one of the biggest guys in the gym to who he is at the beginning of this series. However, it’s a chance to practice what he preaches and not care what other people think.
Episode 1 chronicles his surgery, his first workout, less than three months later, and all the emotions experienced in between.
