You’ve tried every pre-workout on the market and you’re still not satisfied? Time to try the Body Spartan secret supplement.
It’s actually not a secret supplement, in fact it’s been around for years and is a B-vitamin. It’s just a truly over looked and underrated pre-workout supplement. Most of use will pay $4 or $5 for a pre-workout drink at the gym or health club and others will buy a tub of NO Explode, 1MR, or Jack3D. While all these are good as far as stimulants go, we all have the ability to build up a tolerance to them – as I’m sure you’ve all experienced.
That’s where Niacin comes in
Niacin is vitamin B3 and has several medicinal uses that are all backed by University studies. Some of these uses include
- Increasing HDL (good cholesterol)
- Treating premenstrual headaches
- Treating ADHD
- Improving digestion
- Lowering your blood pressure
- Improving orgasm
Yes, all these sound enticing but what about the pre-workout?
Story time with T-Reks
When I was on the Smackdown roster with WWE, Inc. I would frequent the WWE training center in Tampa, FL. One night, we were preparing for a show at the training center and I heard a TON of laughter coming from the locker room. I poked my head in to see what was going on and I see Ryback, who is a 280lbs monster, with purple skin and his eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his head. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe he had taken three or four of the 500mg niacin pills. He was also seeing spots and his skin was so flushed that if you put your hand on it, a white hand print would remain for about 10-15 seconds. So why on earth would I recommend this supplement to anyone?
When taken in moderate doses (500mg – 1,000mg) niacin will give you a minor flush and create a tingling sensation in your skin. It’s very similar to Beta-alanine in that respect. It’s that tingling sensation and the warming of your skin that acts as the gas pedal for your workout. The feeling of the niacin flush can last up to 20 minutes and I have found it actually increases vascularity during and after that time. Some of my best, most focused workouts have been induced by a gnarly niacin flush.
I would recommend purchasing 500mg pills or smaller and starting in small doses. Your body will slowly build up a tolerance to niacin and the flushing effect will be less each time. 100mg-250mg for your first time is probably sufficient. The next time you can up it another 250mg until you reach 1,000mg. This will take time, as too much will be extremely intense.
Tyson Kidd gave me a trick to eliminate a niacin flush. Basically, you drink a ton of water and the flush dissipates – slowly.
Other factors that determine how intense the flush is will include whether or not you have taken niacin on a full or empty stomach. A full stomach will severely lessen the flush and the overall motivation in the gym (in my opinion). I usually will eat about 20 minutes before I lift. Then, on the way to the gym I’ll down half an Endorush from BSN and take 1,000 mg of niacin with it.
Also, if your body is full of toxins then your flush will be more intense than usual. For example, here’s a pic of my worst flush ever after I spent a night with my friend, Johnny Walker. Not fun.
